Evaluation of Turkish illustrated story books on oral hygiene.

BackgroundThe acquisition of oral hygiene habits during early childhood plays an important role in the prevention of dental caries. Illustrated storybooks can be an effective tool for teaching children oral hygiene behaviors. This study examined the content of available Turkish illustrated storybooks related to oral hygiene from various perspectives.MethodsInternet searches were conducted for books related to oral hygiene. The publication year, price, page count, original language, image-text coherence, target audience age, reading level, author's profession, and reference information of the books that met the inclusion criteria were recorded. The content of the books was evaluated based on the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD).ResultsA total of 33 books with relevant content fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The publication years of the books ranged from 2015 to 2023. The average price was 53.95 ± 27.71 liras, and the average number of pages was 28.06 ± 13.13. Thermodynamic uncertainty relations

Bohr and Heisenberg suggested that the thermodynamical quantities of temperature and energy are complementary in the same way as position and momentum in quantum mechanics. Roughly speaking, their idea was that a definite temperature can be attributed to a system only if it is submerged in a heat bath, in which case energy fluctuations are unavoidable. On the other hand, a definite energy can only be assigned to systems in thermal isolation, thus excluding the simultaneous determination of its temperature. Rosenfeld extended this analogy with quantum mechanics and obtained a quantitative uncertainty relation in the form (Delta U) (Delta (1/T)) >= k where k is Boltzmann's constant. The two `extreme' cases of this relation would then characterize this complementarity between isolation (U definite) and contact with a heat bath (T definite). Other formulations of the thermodynamical uncertainty relations were proposed by Mandelbrot (1956, 1989), Lindhard (1986) and Lavenda (1987, 1991). This work, however, has not led to a consensus in the literature. Validity and reliability study of the dental students of attitudes towards online learning scale.

BackgroundThe shift to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for reliable tools to evaluate students' attitudes. This study aimed to adapt the "Medical School Students' Attitudes Towards Online Learning Scale" for dental students and assess its validity and reliability.MethodsA cross-sectional study with 181 dental students was conducted. Data were analyzed for mean, standard deviation, count, and percentage. Validity analyses included the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test and Bartlett's Sphericity test for factor analysis suitability. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) assessed construct validity. Reliability was evaluated through Cronbach's Alpha, item-total correlations, and split-half reliability. Model fit indices (χ²/df, RMSEA, CFI, TLI, SRMR) were used to ensure acceptable goodness-of-fit values. Analyses were conducted using SPSS 20.0 and JAMOVI 2.5.3, with p < 0.05.ResultsThe first-order CFA model aligned with the original structure (χ²/df = 2.336, RMSEA = 0.080, SRMR = 0.069, CFI = 0.893). BackgroundWith the increased use of smartphones, mobile applications (apps) aimed at promoting healthy behaviors have experienced exponential growth.ObjectivesThis study aimed to provide an overview of mobile apps that use gamification to motivate children to maintain optimal oral hygiene and to evaluate the quality of the oral hygiene apps for children (OHACs) available in the Turkish Google Play Store and the Apple Store.MethodsBetween January 20 and February 2, 2024, OHACs were searched in the Turkish Google Play Store and the Apple Store. Seven apps were assessed using the Mobile Application Rating Scale (MARS) and evidence-based dentistry criteria (EBD). Mclk1+/- mice are not resistant to the development of atherosclerosis.

Mice with a single copy of Mclk1 (a.k.a. Coq7), a gene that encodes a mitochondrial enzyme required for the biosynthesis of ubiquinone and other functions, live longer than wild-type mice. The prolonged survival implies a decreased mortality from age-dependent lethal pathologies. Atherosclerosis is one of the main age-dependent pathologies in humans and can be modeled in mice that lack Apolipoprotein E (ApoE-/-) or mice that lack the Low Density Lipoprotein Receptor (LDLr-/-) in addition to being fed an atherosclerosis-inducing diet. We sought to determine if Mclk1 heterozygosity protects against atherosclerosis and dyslipidemia in these models.

Validity and reliability of a Turkish pediatric oral health-related quality of life measure.

PurposeThis study aimed to develop Turkish measures for Pediatric Oral Health-related Quality of Life (POQL) and evaluate their reliability and validity for use in Turkish children aged 8-14 years (Child Self-Report measure; CSR) and their caregivers (Parent Report-on-Child measure; PRC).Materials and methodsThe English POQL was translated into Turkish, adapted for the Turkish culture, and tested in 149 children and their caregivers attending the Çukurova University Pediatric Dentistry clinics to assess the reliability, internal consistency, and discriminant and convergent validity of the Turkish version.ResultsThe internal consistency of the Turkish POQL evaluated using Cronbach's alpha was 0.905 for CSR and 0.887 for PRC. To determine the test-retest reliability, the Turkish POQL was administered to a sub-sample (n=16) a second time 2 weeks after the first survey administration. Intraclass correlation coefficient values of the individual items were 0.895 for CSR and 0.992 for PRC. Child perceptions questionnaire 11-14 in Turkish language in an orthodontic patient sample.

PurposeThe Child Perceptions Questionnaire 11-14 (CPQ 11-14) is a generic tool that was developed to measure oral health-related quality of life in early adolescents. The aim of this study was to prepare a Turkish version of the CPQ 11-14 and to test its psychometric properties in an adolescent orthodontic patient sample.Materials and methodsThe questionnaire was adapted to Turkish using a forward backward translation method, and it was found to be understandable in a pilot study (n=15). The Turkish version of the CPQ 11-14 was administered to 200 orthodontic consultation patients (aged 11-14 years). Retests were conducted in 50 patients 2 weeks after the first tests. The ICON index was used to determine the orthodontic treatment need. Decayed, missing, and filled teeth were also recorded with the DMFT index. Spearman correlations and t-tests were used to assess validity.
