(Quasi-)admissible modules over symmetrizable Kac-Moody superalgebras
The theory of admissible modules over symmetrizable anisotropic Kac-Moody superalgebras, introduced by Kac and Wakimoto in late 80's, is a well-developed subject with many applications, including representation theory of vertex algebras. Recently this theory was developed in a more general setup by Gorelik and Serganova. In the present paper we develop in this more general setup the theory of admissible modules over arbitrary symmetrizable Kac-Moody superalgebras.
Turkish Validation of the User Version of the Mobile Application Rating Scale.
ObjectiveAs the number of mobile health applications increases, quality assessment becomes a capital feature of any mobile application design. Besides the professional evaluation conducted before marketing the app, the perceptions of the subjects to whom is intended will determine the successful widespread dis- semination. Hence, the implementation of a given app may be impaired by the lack of a validated transla- tion and cross-cultural adaptation. We aimed to validate in the Turkish language the User Version of the Mobile Application Rating Scale, an English original scale designed to assess the quality of mobile health applications.Materials and methodsA well-established and predefined process of cross-cultural adaptation and transla- tion to Turkish of the User Version of the Mobile Application Rating Scale according to the World Health Organization guidelines was performed using a common, readily available, free-of-charge application. Internal consistency and reliability were tested in a population sample by Cronbach's α and rWG index, respectively.ResultsThe total User Version of the Mobile Application Rating Scale score had good internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.87). …
Two-dimensional magnetic interactions in LaFeAsO
Inelastic neutron scattering measurements demonstrate that the magnetic interactions in antiferromagnetic LaFeAsO are two-dimensional. Spin wave velocities within the Fe layer and the magnitude of the spin gap are similar to the \textit{A}Fe$_2$As$_2$ based materials. However, the ratio of interlayer and intralayer exchange is found to be less than $\sim 10^{-4}$ in LaFeAsO, very similar to the cuprates, and $\sim$ 100 times smaller than that found in \textit{A}Fe$_2$As$_2$ compounds. The results suggest that the effective dimensionality of the magnetic system is highly variable in the parent compounds of the iron arsenides and weak 3-D interactions may limit the maximum attainable superconducting $T_{c}$.
The long non-coding RNA LINC00941 and SPRR5 are novel regulators of human epidermal homeostasis.
Several long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) act as regulators of cellular homeostasis; however, few of these molecules were functionally characterized in a mature human tissue environment. Here, we report that the lncRNA LINC00941 is a crucial regulator of human epidermal homeostasis. LINC00941 is enriched in progenitor keratinocytes and acts as a repressor of keratinocyte differentiation. Furthermore, LINC00941 represses SPRR5, a previously uncharacterized molecule, which functions as an essential positive regulator of keratinocyte differentiation. Interestingly, 54.8% of genes repressed in SPRR5-deficient epidermal tissue are induced in LINC00941-depleted organotypic epidermis, suggesting a common mode of action for both molecules.
ALOHA 2: An Enhanced Low-Cost Hardware for Bimanual Teleoperation
Diverse demonstration datasets have powered significant advances in robot learning, but the dexterity and scale of such data can be limited by the hardware cost, the hardware robustness, and the ease of teleoperation. We introduce ALOHA 2, an enhanced version of ALOHA that has greater performance, ergonomics, and robustness compared to the original design. To accelerate research in large-scale bimanual manipulation, we open source all hardware designs of ALOHA 2 with a detailed tutorial, together with a MuJoCo model of ALOHA 2 with system identification. See the project website at aloha-2.github.io.
Association of FKBP51 with priming of autophagy pathways and mediation of antidepressant treatment response: evidence in cells, mice, and humans.
BackgroundFK506 binding protein 51 (FKBP51) is an Hsp90 co-chaperone and regulator of the glucocorticoid receptor, and consequently of stress physiology. Clinical studies suggest a genetic link between FKBP51 and antidepressant response in mood disorders; however, the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. The objective of this study was to elucidate the role of FKBP51 in the actions of antidepressants, with a particular focus on pathways of autophagy. Methods and findingsEstablished cell lines, primary neural cells, human blood cells of healthy individuals and patients with depression, and mice were treated with antidepressants. Mice were tested for several neuroendocrine and behavioral parameters. Protein interactions and autophagic pathway activity were mainly evaluated by co-immunoprecipitation and Western blots. We first show that the effects of acute antidepressant treatment on behavior are abolished in FKBP51 knockout (51KO) mice. Autophagic markers, such as the autophagy initiator Beclin1, were increased following acute antidepressant treatment in brains from wild-type, but not 51KO, animals. FKBP51 binds to Beclin1, changes decisive protein interactions and phosphorylation …
A refinement of the Kac polynomials for quivers with enough loops
A conjecture of Kac now a theorem asserts that the polynomial now known as the Kac polynomial, which counts the isomorphism classes of absolutely indecomposable representations of a quiver over a finite field with a given dimension vector, has non-negative integer coefficients only. In this paper, we show that, for quivers with enough loops, every Kac polynomial can be expressed as a sum of the refined Kac polynomials which are parametrized by tuples of partitions and have non-negative integer coefficients only. A closed formula for the refined Kac polynomials is given. We further introduce a new class of representations called blocks and make a conjectural interpretation of the refined Kac polynomials for quivers with enough loops in terms of the numbers of block representations.
Observation of Atmospheric Neutrino Oscillations in Soudan 2
The effects of oscillations of atmospheric muon neutrinos are observed in the 5.90 fiducial kiloton-year exposure of the Soudan 2 detector. An unbinned maximum likelihood analysis of the neutrino L/E distribution has been carried out using the Feldman-Cousins prescription. The probability of the no oscillation hypothesis is 5.8x10-4. The 90% confidence allowed region in the sin**(2theta), Delta m**2 plane is presented.

Search for the Proton Decay Mode proton to neutrino K+ in Soudan 2
We have searched for the proton decay mode proton to neutrino K+ using the one-kiloton Soudan 2 high resolution calorimeter. Contained events obtained from a 3.56 kiloton-year fiducial exposure through June 1997 are examined for occurrence of a visible K+ track which decays at rest into mu+ nu or pi+ pi0. We found one candidate event consistent with background, yielding a limit, tau/B > 4.3 10^{31} years at 90% CL with no background subtraction.
Search for nucleon decay into lepton + K0 final states using Soudan 2
A search for nucleon decay into two-body final states containing K^0 mesons has been conducted using the 963 metric ton Soudan 2 iron tracking calorimeter. The topologies, ionizations, and kinematics of contained events recorded in a 5.52 kiloton-year total exposure (4.41 kton-year fiducial volume exposure) are examined for compatibility with nucleon decays in an iron medium. For proton decay into the fully visible final states μ^+K^0_s and e^+K^0_s, zero and one event candidates are observed respectively. The lifetime lower limits (τ/B) thus implied are 1.5 \times 10^{32} years and 1.2 \times 10^{32} years, respectively. Lifetime lower limits are also reported for proton decay into l^+K^0_l, and for neutron decay into νK^0_s.
A Study of Cosmic Ray Composition in the Knee Region using Multiple Muon Events in the Soudan 2 Detector
Deep underground muon events recorded by the Soudan 2 detector, located at a depth of 2100 meters of water equivalent, have been used to infer the nuclear composition of cosmic rays in the "knee" region of the cosmic ray energy spectrum. The observed muon multiplicity distribution favors a composition model with a substantial proton content in the energy region 800,000 - 13,000,000 GeV/nucleus.
The Project 8 Neutrino Mass Experiment
Measurements of the $β^-$ spectrum of tritium give the most precise direct limits on neutrino mass. Project 8 will investigate neutrino mass using Cyclotron Radiation Emission Spectroscopy (CRES) with an atomic tritium source. CRES is a new experimental technique that has the potential to surmount the systematic and statistical limitations of current-generation direct measurement methods. Atomic tritium avoids an irreducible systematic uncertainty associated with the final states populated by the decay of molecular tritium. Project 8 will proceed in a phased approach toward a goal of 40 meV/c$^2$ neutrino-mass sensitivity.
Kac's Central Limit Theorem by Stein's Method
In $1946$, Mark Kac proved a Central Limit type theorem for a sequence of random variables that were not independent. The random variables under consideration were obtained from the angle-doubling map. The idea behind Kac's proof was to show that although the random variables under consideration were not independent, they were what he calls \textit{statistically independent} (in modern terminology, this concept is called long range independence). The final conclusion of his paper was that the sample averages of the random variables, suitably normalized converges to the standard normal distribution. We describe a new proof of Mark Kac's result by applying Stein's method and show that the normalized sample averages converge to the standard normal distribution in the Wasserstein metric, which is stronger than the convergence in distribution.
