Inflatable Kirigami Crawlers
Kirigami offers unique opportunities for guided morphing by leveraging the geometry of the cuts. This work presents inflatable kirigami crawlers created by introducing cut patterns into heat-sealable textiles to achieve locomotion upon cyclic pneumatic actuation. Inflating traditional air pouches results in symmetric bulging and contraction. In inflated kirigami actuators, the accumulated compressive forces uniformly break the symmetry, enhance contraction compared to simple air pouches by two folds, and trigger local rotation of the sealed edges that overlap and self-assemble into an architected surface with emerging scale-like features. As a result, the inflatable kirigami actuators exhibit a uniform, controlled contraction with asymmetric localized out-of-plane deformations. This process allows us to harness the geometric and material nonlinearities to imbue inflatable textile-based kirigami actuators with predictable locomotive functionalities. Correlations between the dynamics of parallel tempering and the free-energy landscape in spin glasses
We present the results of a large-scale numerical study of the equilibrium three-dimensional Edwards-Anderson Ising spin glass with Gaussian disorder. Using parallel tempering (replica exchange) Monte Carlo we measure various static, as well as dynamical quantities, such as the autocorrelation times and round-trip times for the parallel tempering Monte Carlo method. The correlation between static and dynamic observables for 5000 disorder realizations and up to 1000 spins down to temperatures at 20% of the critical temperature is examined. Our results show that autocorrelation times are directly correlated with the roughness of the free-energy landscape.
Toward a Time-Aware Assessment Framework for the Carbon Cost of AI-Enabled Decarbonization
AI is increasingly used to support decarbonization decisions across the built environment, yet the development, training, and use of AI consume energy and induce CO2e emissions. However, existing assessments often report physical-system savings while omitting AI-side emissions. Moreover, they rarely account for the mismatch between when AI costs occur and when decarbonization benefits materialize, which may be substantial for infrastructure-scale projects. To address these issues, we present a time-aware assessment framework that models avoided emissions and AI-induced emissions as discrete-time streams over a finite time horizon. In demonstrating this process, we seek to show that time-aware assessment can support temporal decision-making, identify cases in which accounting for time value of carbon can change preferred rankings relative to time-invariant totals, and explore how decisions may vary with slightly different governance priorities. Learning To Guide Human Decision Makers With Vision-Language Models
There is growing interest in AI systems that support human decision-making in high-stakes domains (e.g., medical diagnosis) to improve decision quality and reduce cognitive load. Mainstream approaches pair human experts with a machine-learning model, offloading low-risk decisions to the model so that experts can focus on cases that require their judgment. This separation of responsibilities setup, however, is inadequate for high-stakes scenarios. The expert may end up over-relying on the machine's decisions due to anchoring bias, thus losing the human oversight that is increasingly being required by regulatory agencies to ensure trustworthy AI. On the other hand, the expert is left entirely unassisted on the (typically hardest) decisions on which the model abstained. As a remedy, we introduce learning to guide (LTG), an alternative framework in which -- rather than taking control from the human expert -- the machine provides guidance useful for decision making, and the human is entirely responsible for coming up with a decision. Isometric Timelike Surfaces in 4--Dimensional Minkowski Space
In this paper, first we study on Bour's theorem for four kinds of timelike helicoidal surfaces in 4-dimensional Minkowski space. Secondly, we analyse the geometric properties of these isometric surfaces having same Gauss map. Also, we present the parametrizations of such isometric pair of surfaces. Finally, we introduce some examples and draw the corresponding graphs by using Wolfram Mathematica 10.4.
Integrable discrete systems on R and related dispersionless systems
The general framework for integrable discrete systems on R in particular containing lattice soliton systems and their q-deformed analogues is presented. The concept of regular grain structures on R, generated by discrete one-parameter groups of diffeomorphisms, through which one can define algebras of shift operators is introduced. Two integrable hierarchies of discrete chains together with bi-Hamiltonian structures are constructed. Their continuous limit and the inverse problem based on the deformation quantization scheme are considered.
Note on the Sum of Powers of Signless Laplacian Eigenvalues of Graphs
For a simple graph $G$ and a real number $α$ $\left(α\neq 0,1\right) $ the graph invariant $s_α\left(G\right) $ is equal to the sum of powers of signless Laplacian eigenvalues of $G$. In this note, we present some new bounds on $s_α\left(G\right) $. As a result of these bounds, we also give some results on incidence energy.
Spectroscopic and Photometric Investigation of Some Potentially Chemically Peculiar $δ$ Scuti Stars
Investigating chemically peculiar pulsating stars is crucial for understanding the pulsation driving mechanism in detail. To reveal the true peculiarity properties of stars detailed spectroscopic analysis is essential. Therefore, in this study, we focused on Delta Scuti stars previously identified as chemically peculiar but needed comprehensive updated spectroscopic analysis to uncover the chemical abundance structure of them. We selected ten targets which have public high-resolution spectroscopic and photometric data. Performing spectral analyses, we determined the spectral classification, atmospheric parameters, and detailed chemical abundance distributions of the selected stars. The pulsation properties were also analyzed using TESS data and pulsation modes for the highest amplitude pulsation frequencies were derived. We estimated the masses and ages of the targets using the evolutionary tracks and isochrones. As a result of the study, we show that only three targets exhibit chemical peculiarity: AU Scl and FG Eri as metallic A (Am) stars, and HZ Vel as a $λ$ Bootis.
